Which is fine, if that’s what the general consensus ends up being (I generally disagree with deleting knowledge, but that’s my own opinion and not up to me really), but then this should/will never be a place for knowledge and only just casual conversation. A lot of people on lemmy want it to replace reddit in terms of search results, but it may never be that.
Disassociating with old comments and posts would be a good way to go, but I’m not really sure that’s an option for the fediverse? In theory couldn’t someone in the future set up an instance whose sole purpose is just back up and collect data? How would someone even go about trying to erase themselves from a situation like that?
There is one worry I have about Lemmy being the knowledge of anything and it’s what happened on reddit. Many people went through and nuked their comments, essentially making many posts useless. There are already people here on lemmy that delete their profiles, comments and start over every few months. Not really sure what that means for all the federation, but I assume different instances may have different versions of deleted information in the long run?

Niche communities happened naturally over time on reddit as well. You need to grow the larger base communities first, since you’ll be gathering the numbers there. Then you branch off. The only other option is for you yourself to build up the niche communities by posting more often, it’s a lot of work.
I don’t remember the vitriol being as consistent on reddit. On a larger scale here, if it’s a computer, it needs to be Linux or you’re downvoted. If it’s video games, it needs to be a PC or they don’t want to hear about it. Even Steam that was generally loved on Reddit gets some flack, because GOG is more DRM free from what I can tell (I don’t game on PCs)
Lemmy is the wrong place to mention Nintendo. You will get obliterated by people.
40hrs seems like a good chunk of time. I think I collected everything in Hollow Knight in 60hrs, so this sounds encouraging in terms of money’s worth. From the comments it does sound enjoyable. A game from long ago that I played for the art was Muramasa on the wii, but I remember never finishing the game and selling it. I will give this one a shot!
The artwork looks great to me, but I can’t really see anything amazing game mechanics wise from the trailer. What do you think makes it GOTY for you? (I’d genuinely want to give this game a try)
That is also what I was reading, that each instance may have its own backend rules on how things are pulled. I worry that may become an issue with cross posting or probably deter people from posting in general if true.

I just want to get into doing more posts, but I am confused on how to get consistent visual images to load on timelines from articles, general website thumbnails, gifs and videos.
And a lot of those people arrived when those communities were already built up on reddit.
This seems to be a type of post that keeps popping up more and more. Some people are venting and mourning their loss of reddit, which I get… but others have a sense of entitlement, of wanting to have things without needing to work for it. They want someone else to put in the blood, sweat and tears and be the ones to reap the benefits.
Imagine pilgrims coming to early North America and no one wanting to participate once they arrived, because no pre-built cities exited? We wouldn’t have a country in the US (though I’m sure that must have been the attitude of some)
This is usually how it goes. The larger communities keep growing until they can branch off into the more niche ones.
I see this a lot too and to me it mimics the 7 stages of grief. It sounds like he just passed anger and is at bargaining.
I think if most of the reddit transplants (myself a transplant) can’t arrive at acceptance, they end up going back.
