I once did three weeks of IT work in a forensic pathology lab.
They had a microwave - a regular microwave oven designed for use in the kitchen. They used it for degloving hands. That means they put the severed hand in the microwave and heated it until the fatty layer under the skin softened. That way the skin could be slid off mostly intact.
I absolutely would not do this to a living person. It doesn’t seem healthy.
The germ theory of disease was originally very unpopular with doctors who subscribed to the miasma theory of disease. The idea that a doctor should was their hands before tending to a patient was seen as insulting. Doctors were gentlemen! Their personal hygiene was beyond reproach!

I watched a youtube video on that very question a couple of months back. The gist of it was that it’s possible to replicate several aspects of the forcefield concept, at great expense and limited utility, but the full package is impractical and will be for the foreseeable future.
