To be fair, the traditional web models were falling apart prior to AI as well. We’ve gone so far past “ad driven” that Everything has to be full of ads and clickbait to drive revenue just to run the infrastructure, let alone pay for the pages creation and upkeep. Journalists and developers, services and goods are all using adword soup to try to get anything close to a useful revenue stream and it’ll just keep getting worse until we figure out a better business model. We’re going to increasingly see paywalls to try to make up for that, but a large part of people on the internet won’t want to spend money on quality sources when they use to be able to get it for free. It’s been a race to the bottom for a while and it’s at a point that isn’t sustainable long term. AI just accelerates that to the next level.

It’s okay, we’ll just get rid of the regulations on everything else so this one fits the norm.

Have it sync the backup files from the -2- part. You can then copy them out of the syncthing folder to a local one with a cron to rotate them. That way you get the sync offsite and you can keep them out of the rotation as long as you want.

That would be awesome, and I regularly do so on vacations, but let’s be real here: I like having a job so I can have a house and food and pay for goods and services when necessary. Being constantly connected is a basic requirement and responsibility for employment, so I’m going to choose the connection with the least impact on my daily life.

Ironically, owning a smart watch is what helps me keep focused. I can put my phone down and not be tempted to look at things on it. The watch will alert me if I get a call and only certain notifications go to it while my phone stays parked somewhere else in the house.

Honestly, I’ve been tempted to get an LTE one and stop owning a smart phone… the only thing holding me back is my job requiring one.

On one hand, having been forced to use Skype, I’m happy to see it gone. On the other hand, they somehow made it worse and called it Teams.

Thus far, they’d basically be right. Any fines are simply chocked up to “cost of doing business” expenses and since no one wants to either make solid laws against this stuff OR hold them accountable for current ones, they’ll just keep at it.

Finish my migration to my local Kubernetes cluster. Tired of running a mix of vms, docker, and bare metal. I got it setup and a few things, just have to power through.

I also need to bump the drive size in my NAS as I’m running low and want to leverage it more, not less. (Pods use PVs hosted on the NAS over NFS or iSCSI).

And get my offsite backups going again, I had to move this last year and it put a real damper on my goals for last year so there’s a lot of “got the stuff just have to make it work”.

Edit: the UDM Pro is pretty nice. That, a rack and a 2.5G enterprise switch were last year’s acquisitions.

Same in the US… I don’t have any choice on where my power comes from. Though the government tries to go after them for price fixing/gouging, it’s always way late and a smaller penalty that nut should have been while they’re currently making money hand over fist.

If you have a cable that supports it, which is not usually obvious. And if you have a charger that supports it, which tends to be easier, but again, not always obvious. And don’t even start on transfer speeds or whether or not it’ll support lower usb standards like keyboards and mice. (I have a fairly high end cable that supports the highest speed data transfers but a keyboard will not work on it)

Micro was the worst connector I’ve used, and I’m happy for its demise, but at least I knew what I was getting when I plugged it in.

That doesn’t sound better. I get the shared databases, though it does introduce security issues. But the facial recognition that’s been proven flaked and flawed and based on biometric data that can be leaked and never changed… no thank you.

Like what they did with Maps… oh wait, Maps is actually pretty good now. Better than Google Maps in many ways. (Especially since it’s ad free and not shoving sponsored things at people)

There have been a few good indie games. Been playing a lot of Timberborn this year for instance.

That said, it’s just helping me catch up on my backlog.

I still prefer Pandora, it’s great for music discovery and it pays artists more than Spotify. I also feel like its recommendations are better or maybe I’ve just had better luck with them.

I’ve Definitely found new artists and albums after listening on Pandora that I went off and purchased CDs or albums thanks to it.

Apple Music’s recommendations were fairly good as well, and they also pay more than Spotify, but not tons and I abhor how it integrates music I don’t own with my actual library.

I need to try Tidal, but I also just don’t get the “you’ll stream everything and own nothing” idea. I just like “radio” services for discovering new stuff.

That’s not a normal thing, I’d just like to point out. Sometimes we have years where the front doesn’t fall off at all.

Ngl, I canceled them and haven’t gone back since. Don’t really miss it much, I try to use the same cost as my subscription to buy music every month on CD when I can.

If it did 1080i, I’m guessing it was a widescreen model. Done in the early 2000’s. I got a 36” trinitron for about $1600 that did 1080i/720p. Heavy as crap, but damn fine picture. Halo looked awesome.

I had a 2002 Protege5 for 15 yrs. Besides normal wear items, it was solid. I only sold it because family meant I needed a larger vehicle. I do miss it at times though. Just got a CX-90 for my wife, so here’s hoping we get the same results. I tend to average about 15yrs on a car so far and I’d like to keep that number up.

I definitely try to buy on GoG (and download them locally for offline play/install) instead of Steam when I can help it… but that’s not very often as many games just don’t make it over there.

I’d be surprised if they can keep phones with this waterproof and dust proof. Laptops I can see, phones not so much.
