Don’t get too comfortable. A few project2025 true believers in bureaucratic positions could make life a living hell while these shits play reality tv in the whitehouse.
Hrm, that’s true. Maybe we could just auction off all the churches to raise funds to house all the homeless people.
Hey libs, you’re pooling so poorly you might become a fourth place party after this election.
Why not preemptively coalition with the NDP in support of PM Singh.
I’m so glad we finally got rid of the flip floppers. /s
The only two actual priorities for Trump are
He literally doesn’t give a fuck about anything else.
Yup. I’m of the opinion that that Jesus fellow (at least to the extent we can see in the Bible) was a pretty cool dude. But Christianity seems to reject pretty much all his teachings.
These statistics are difficult to measure accurately but we believe there are about 770,000 homeless Americans and as far as the oracle can tell me there are 350-400k churches. If Christians did Christianity right churches would provide shelter and community integration/engagement for the homeless. Each church only needs to help two people and most congregations have 30+ people.
Christianity could trivially solve homelessness, they just chose not to.
Man, if the feds start arresting police officers for enforcing state laws things are going to get really fucking chaotic.
You’re not wrong - though that’s been happening pretty much across the globe. Late stage capitalism is a bitch and the squeeze is hitting everyone.
I want to clarify that I don’t think Biden was a fantastic president or anything - he was just better than I’d initially expected and the least worse in recent history (if you ignore his response to the genocide in Gaza)
The hate is swelling in you now. Take your Jedi weapon. Use it. I am unarmed. Strike me down with it! Give into your anger!
Be too distracted by infighting to get anything done. Pwease? Pwetty Pwease?
I filled it out as a non-resident which didn’t seem to be discouraged anywhere. I’d encourage everyone else to do so as well as more information is never a bad thing.
It’s not that they’re correct - they just happened to be on the right side of this issue for terrible reasons.
I want skilled immigrants to have more rights - they want them to not exist - both I and a lot of MAGA folks think H1B visas are bad but for extremely different reasons.
It is actually just a terrible system. H1B visas are tied to employment and specific positions so the recipients of them are denied labor bargaining power. Skill based immigration that isn’t employer tied is much more fair to both the immigrant and citizens around them.
So it’s less that H1B is bad because loopholes and exploits and more that it’s just a deeply flawed idea from the get-go.
I also think it’d be dumb for Biden to have stayed in the race but in retrospect he’s the most progressive president we’ve had in my lifetime (I was born during Reagan’s administration).
The response to the genocide in Gaza, in particular, was a huge political misstep - in terms of party popularity it seems to have been more costly than the Iraq War.
Biden did a lot of other shit especially investments in tech and manufacturing that are already paying huge dividends. It’s actually astonishing he managed to get a high precision TSMC plant in AZ due to the existential threat that may cause to Taiwan and greenlighting plant reconstruction through the NRC may be a godsend if we’re able to start fighting climate change again in 2028 (America may still be dumb as shit though).
It’ll take some time to really measure how these investments will fully mature but as much as I hate him for not rejecting genocide he has otherwise been the least shit president I’ve ever lived under.
Hey hey now - Harris was extremely underwhelming on climate change but let’s not act like there was no difference in their stances.
It absolutely isn’t. H1B visa holders are basically indentured servents. It’s an absolutely awful policy to tie immigration to a persons employment status with a specific employer (or another employer willing to accept the paperwork of maintaining H1B employees which you must find rapidly of you lose your job).
We have skill based immigration and I’d much rather these H1B applicants got in under that and could choose to move jobs if their employer is abusive. As it is many H1B visa holders end up trapped in underpaid overworked positions for fear of needing to suddenly relocate their lives again.
Also me, though. I was hoping H1B visa status would die a well deserved death. It’s basically indistinguishable from indentured servitude and causes massive issues in having a free and equitable labor market.
I don’t personally agree with any limits on immigration but if we’re going to have limits then everyone we admit should be treated no different from a citizen in most ways - they shouldn’t be tied to specific employers or anything else that will cause domestic wage deflation.
Fuck Trump with a rusty dildo - but I was hoping he, and not Elon, came out on top in this one.
I’ve tried to eschew phrasing like “No one believes” or “Everyone knows” because a whole lot of asshats live in a fantastical world completely divorced from reality.
The only speech Musk believes should be free is his own. That is a remarkably consistent stance with nearly all other conservatives.
Imagine for a fucking moment that you declared yourself in favor of free speech while also dictating how others should identify themselves. Trans identification brought this to an absurdist level but conservatives have always been in favor of extremely stringent limits on self-expression.
Trump vs the bar would be an interesting fight to watch. He’d be up against a lot of entrenched power and money that wouldn’t want to cede an inch.
I don’t know if this is an institution that could tell him to fuck off but it’s a deeply entrenched one.
