  • Yup. I’m of the opinion that that Jesus fellow (at least to the extent we can see in the Bible) was a pretty cool dude. But Christianity seems to reject pretty much all his teachings.

These statistics are difficult to measure accurately but we believe there are about 770,000 homeless Americans and as far as the oracle can tell me there are 350-400k churches. If Christians did Christianity right churches would provide shelter and community integration/engagement for the homeless. Each church only needs to help two people and most congregations have 30+ people.

Christianity could trivially solve homelessness, they just chose not to.

  • I also think it’d be dumb for Biden to have stayed in the race but in retrospect he’s the most progressive president we’ve had in my lifetime (I was born during Reagan’s administration).

The response to the genocide in Gaza, in particular, was a huge political misstep - in terms of party popularity it seems to have been more costly than the Iraq War.

Biden did a lot of other shit especially investments in tech and manufacturing that are already paying huge dividends. It’s actually astonishing he managed to get a high precision TSMC plant in AZ due to the existential threat that may cause to Taiwan and greenlighting plant reconstruction through the NRC may be a godsend if we’re able to start fighting climate change again in 2028 (America may still be dumb as shit though).

It’ll take some time to really measure how these investments will fully mature but as much as I hate him for not rejecting genocide he has otherwise been the least shit president I’ve ever lived under.

  • It absolutely isn’t. H1B visa holders are basically indentured servents. It’s an absolutely awful policy to tie immigration to a persons employment status with a specific employer (or another employer willing to accept the paperwork of maintaining H1B employees which you must find rapidly of you lose your job).

We have skill based immigration and I’d much rather these H1B applicants got in under that and could choose to move jobs if their employer is abusive. As it is many H1B visa holders end up trapped in underpaid overworked positions for fear of needing to suddenly relocate their lives again.

  • Also me, though. I was hoping H1B visa status would die a well deserved death. It’s basically indistinguishable from indentured servitude and causes massive issues in having a free and equitable labor market.

I don’t personally agree with any limits on immigration but if we’re going to have limits then everyone we admit should be treated no different from a citizen in most ways - they shouldn’t be tied to specific employers or anything else that will cause domestic wage deflation.

Fuck Trump with a rusty dildo - but I was hoping he, and not Elon, came out on top in this one.
